Become a Patron of the Arts

Ptarmigan Arts hosts and supports dozens of events annually to promote arts education, appreciation, and development in the Southern Gulf Islands.

We serve islanders of all ages and across all demographics. Actually! In 2023, we were able to directly impact over 3,500 members of our community through our programs and events.

Our wide reaching activities provide a unique opportunity for our community partners, allowing us to create tailored sponsorship packages to help you connect with the folks who matter to you.

We hold our mandate close: Cultivating a Creative Community

We do this through valuing our collective humanity, being honest and personable, and honouring our commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

We believe the arts are essential to a vibrant and happy community – which we're sure you do too!

Ptarmigan has enriched our island. We are so fortunate to have this organization and its leadership.

Invest in the future by becoming a monthly donor!

The Ptarmigan Arts team is proud of the of the work we do and excited to be creating dynamic, inclusive arts programming, showcasing local and emerging artists and performers, and sponsoring events and opportunities that bring community together to celebrate the wonders, intelligence and joy of music, dance, film, ceramics, fine arts, literature, and more.

We have an engaged Board of Directors and part of our strategic planning is to reduce our dependence on grant funding and create other sustainable funding sources to ensure Ptarmigan Arts becomes a financially resilient non-profit organization that can weather economic uncertainties.

Would you consider becoming a monthly donor?

Your investment will make it possible for us to thoughtfully develop our programs into the future without depending solely on receiving grant funding. For example, developing a scholarship fund to assist local youth wishing to study music and arts, and purchasing assets that benefit and enhance community arts opportunities (performance tents, lighting and sound system upgrades, arts equipment etc. as needed). It will enable us to continue providing fully subsidised programs:

  • Your investment will enable us to continue providing fully subsidised programs like:

    Artists in the Schools

We provide programming in the Pender Island School, and music classes at the Mayne, Galiano, and Saturna schools as well as the ȽÁU, WELṈEW̱ Tribal School. Providing low-barrier arts education has a high impact on the students and communities but heavily relies on funding and private donations, especially with the extra logistics of travelling to remote island communities.

Arts for Wellness Programs (e.g. Singing for Joy, Community Soul Singalongs)

Throughout the year we offer programs that use various art forms to focus on mental health and wellness. Programs like Art for the Heart, which brings art and music therapy to housebound seniors, and Singing for Joy, led by Mary Reher, have an overwhelmingly positive impact on participants. We offer generous subsidies to make these programs as accessible as possible. Community Soul Singalongs are led by Fiona Stuart in Victoria with partner organisations that work with people with disabilities, new Canadians, and other underserved groups. These free sing-and jam-along sessions have been very effective at providing a sense of community, increased confidence, memory care for older adults with cognitive issues, language skills, and more.

    Community Gatherings

In partnership with the SGI Neighbourhood House and the Pender Community Hall, we provide live music for the Community Gathering on Fridays. Not only does this gathering provide opportunities for local musicians of all experience levels from youth to adults to play for a local audience, but it also provides a place for community members to get an affordable (by donation) bowl of soup and interact with others.
